Nanaimo RCMP Media Advisory
Nanaimo file # 2020-19802
Sometime overnight on Wednesday May 27th, 2020 unknown persons went to a lot of effort to steal Petey, a concrete gargoyle that has guarded a home on Nicol St for years.
The owner told police thieves kicked out a wood fence panel that surrounded his backyard, then made their way to his deck and grabbed Petey. This was not as easy task as Petey weighs in at 100 pounds, stands 2 feet tall and has a wingspan of almost 2.5 feet.
Investigators have no leads at this point but as legend has it, gargoyles can come to life and communicate with others to ward off bad spirits. With that in mind, police are asking Petey and the public to report any information on this theft to the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
