Nanaimo file # 2020-21446
An adult female has died from injuries she sustained in a two vehicle crash. The collision occurred at approximately 7:10 pm on Sunday June 14th 2020, on Highway 19A in front of the Country Club Mall.
Police, BC Paramedics and City of Nanaimo Fire and Rescue attended. Prior to the arrival of first responders, witnesses came to the aid of the victim, age 34 and commenced emergency first aid. However due to the injuries sustained, she did not survive and died at the scene. The victim, who was driving an older model Hyundai, collided with an newer model SUV occupied by a male and female adult. Both received minor injuries and were transported to Nanaimo hospital for treatment.
Investigators spoke with the injured parties and several witnesses. Although preliminary, it is known that the deceased was travelling southbound on Highway 19A. At one point, her vehicle swerved, struck the median then landed in the northbound lanes and collided with the SUV.
The BC Coroners Service attended to the scene, along with officers from the Nanaimo RCMP Traffic Unit and an RCMP Traffic Re-Constructionist officer. Three of the four lanes were closed for several hours while the scene was investigated. Both vehicles were removed from the scene and the victim’s vehicle will undergo a mechanical inspection.
The investigation is continuing. Any one with dash cam video of the incident is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP Traffic Unit at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2020-21446.
