In the past week there have been a number of incidents of persons prowling through carports and trying door handles to vehicles, in the hospital area and Departure Bay neighbourhood. Most of these incidents are occurring between 2:30 am and 4 am. This is good reminder to ensure your vehicles doors and windows are locked and all valuables removed, which includes wallets, which are often overlooked. Keep an eye out for anything moving in your neighbourhood late at night, and if a vehicle or person causes you concern, call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and report it.
Nanaimo file # 2020-15240 Overnight on Saturday April 25th, twenty five, 20 pound propane tanks were stolen from Tank Traders located at 4446 Wellington Road, No suspects or witnesses and it appears entry was gained to the property from a adjacent property
Nanaimo file # 2020-15402 Sometime overnight on Monday April 27th, thieves damaged the underground parking doors at 143 Promenade Drive while trying to gain entry. Video surveillance showed a male between 6:14 and 6:35 am, attempting to force the doors open. The suspect is white, early 20’s, 5 ft. 6 thin build, shaved head and was seen wearing a light blue jacket, green backpack and camo pants.
Nanaimo file # 2020-15448 Sometime overnight on Monday April 27th, a cast iron flower pot, owned by the city of Nanaimo, was stolen from in front of 295 Wallace St.
Nanaimo file # 2020-15517 At 2:30 am on Tuesday April 28th, a male attempted to break into Eden Gardens located at 1917 Northfield Road. The suspect, who was riding a bicycle and wearing a dark grey/green hoodie, tried to pry open the sliding glass doors then ramming it with his body. Staff called police but the male was gone upon arrival.
Nanaimo file # 2020-15562 Sometime overnight on April 28th, a vehicle in the 2800 block of Neyland Drive was rummaged through with sunglasses and a non-descript jacket taken.
Nanaimo file # 2020-15694 Sometime overnight on April 29th, a vehicle parked on Washington Way was broken into and taken was a wallet containing credit cards and an assortment of personal ID. The credit cards have been cancelled. Wallets are often left in unattended vehicles. If a wallet is stolen, thieves can easily make fraudulent purchases and in some cases, set up lines of credit in your name.
Nanaimo file # 2020-15720 Sometime between 12 pm and 12:30 pm on April 30th, a brand new red electric lawnmower was stolen from the front yard of a home on Fielding Road. No brand name or serial number was provided and there are no suspects or witnesses.
Nanaimo file # 2020-15807 At approximately 5:30 am on April 30th, Soccer City located at 6750 Island Highway north reported a break in. A ladder was found propped up next the business and a window had been smashed open. Taken was a cash register which was found lying in the parking lot.
