The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating an altercation that occurred on Monday April 27th between 6 pm and 8 pm, somewhere between Cedar Road and downtown Nanaimo. The 20-year-old male victim received treatment at the Nanaimo hospital for a serious non-life threatening injury.

Police attended to the Nanaimo hospital and spoke with the victim who had numerous cuts and bruises and was receiving treatment for an apparent stab wound. He told investigators he was walking roadside, when he was approached by an unknown male riding a BMX bike. The suspect demanded he turn over some personal items and produced a knife. A struggle ensued and both fell to the ground. He said he received the injury while fighting with the suspect, who fled afterwards on his bike in an unknown direction. The victim, who had no phone, walked to the hospital to seek treatment for his injuries.

The suspect was of medium build, dressed in black and wore a bandana over the lower portion of his face. “Investigators recognize details are limited, however, this appears to be a significant incident that requires further investigation”, said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
