A local golfer is ecstatic and his faith in humankind is renewed after his clubs were located by a Good Samaritan.

The clubs were stolen from a vehicle sometime during the evening of April 21st. With little hope of ever seeing them again, the owner reported the theft and began the tedious task of filing an insurance claim. Later that same day, he answered a knock on his door and much to his surprise; a local Mountie presented him with his stolen clubs.

The officer said the clubs were found by a male out for a walk, and they were lying on the ground in the 400 block of Franklyn St. The Good Samaritan told the officer he saw a news release on the theft earlier in the day and without hesitation, called the police to report the find.

Some minor items were missing such as his umbrella, golf gloves, rain gear and range finder, but it was the clubs, he was most concerned about. “The golfer would like to personally extend his warmest regards to the individual who found them and to thank him for taking the time to call the police“, said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

This is a good reminder to report all thefts, whether there is a suspect or not and not rely solely on social media to spread the word.
