The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating an incident of arson to construction equipment at the children’s playground at Maffeo Sutton Park. The incident occurred at approximately 11:40 pm on Saturday May 2nd, 2020. (Pictures attached)
City of Nanaimo Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the fire that destroyed a compactor valued at $2500. Suspects also tampered with fuel filters on an excavator but it did not sustain any permanent damage.
Currently there are no suspects or witnesses. Additionally there has been no connection made to the incident earlier in the evening, at the Circle K convenience store, in which a fire destroyed a portion of the interior and exterior of the building.
