A two vehicle crash on Jingle Pot Road at Kilpatrick Road resulted in several occupants being taken to hospital with varying injuries. The crash occurred at approximately 3:30 pm on Saturday May 23rd, 2020.
Police and Fire crews attended. Investigators determined that the 19-year-old male driver of a GMC Jimmy was driving southbound on Jingle Pot Road and lost control of his vehicle. He then crossed the centre line and collided with a north bound pickup. His vehicle veered into a ditch where it came to a rest. His 19-year-old female passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle and was later airlifted to a Victoria hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Her 3-week infant son was also in the vehicle but was not injured. The 19-year old driver sustained minor injuries was taken to the Nanaimo hospital for treatment, while the infant was taken for precautionary reasons only.
The driver of the pickup, age 33 was not injured however his vehicle sustained significant damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene and the GMC Jimmy will undergo a mechanical inspection.
The investigation is continuing.
